How does a Registered Investment
Advisor differ from a Broker, a Financial Consultant, a Financial Advisor or
even a Financial Planner in many cases? And which is right for
you? Most people aren't sure ... and it's a critical question.
All have benefits, but the only one that must -- by law -- place your
financial
interests first and not make decisions motivated by commissions is a
Fee-Only Registered Investment Advisor. And while many Brokers and
Financial Consultants offer excellent services, you should be aware that they
work first for their employer and then for you. They will usually do what is
best for their company first and leave it up to you to decide what is best
for you.
Should you have a broker ... or
if you have one, should you continue with them? If you trust them
to provide the excellent service you need, then that may work well for you. But what you
won't get from a broker is a cohesive financial plan built from the
ground up to meet your financial goals -- it's not the way they are paid
and it's therefore not what they deliver. If the creation of a
goal-based plan is important to you, then a Registered Investment Advisor
like Nauset can
deliver. Then you can decide who you want investing for you: the Registered Investment
Advisor or your broker -- or both.
